Making Terra Sigillata, List of Recipes

Ever since discovering 'sig' through my classes with Sandi Pierantozzi (initially) and Jimmy Clark, I have been collecting and testing different terra sigillata recipes and their firing range. 90% of my clay beads are finished with terra sigillata and fired anywhere from cone 4 (electric) to cone 10 (in a gas kiln). The results are earthy and allow the clay beads to remain "open" enough to absorb the essence of the wearer or serve as carriers for essential oils.

This is a short article about how Terra Sigillata is made and my collection of recipes.

    New Site Released, Welcome!

    Site Administrator & Creator
Welcome to the new Claystation.com website. I have just finished a total redesign, redevelopment, and reorganization of the site. The site is packed with all sorts of great new features, including powerful social networking capabilities.

There are many more new features, and all the old features have been completely redone to be more user friendly and more cohesive with the new features. As time progresses, I will introduce articles and videos to help you utilize all the features on the site to their full potential. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns please contact me.
I created this site back in 1999 as resource for the ceramic arts community. After several evolutions of the site, I was never quite satisfied in what I had created because it never felt complete and it was very difficult to maintain. Today, I am very proud of the site, because I feel like it is now finally a very complete resource, has the structure to grow exponentially, and can be easily maintained.

Lastly, with the release of the new site I am happy to announce my new weekly newsletter, Claystation Connection. A newsletter that will include clay related articles, site tips, and what's new on the Claystation. The what's new section, will include information and links to content submitted to the Claystation each week including videos, links, images, blogs, discussions, classified ads, opportunities and events. Please sign up for the newsletter by filling out the form on the left column of this page.

I am a sculptor/potter looking for lead-based glazes for nonfunctional use. Many of these have been discontinued under government pressures and guidelines.
