I have yet to have success with this glaze. Most of the pieces turn out blotchy brown and even the ones with a fairly good 'ocean green' color, have several blotches of brown on the piece. I am using the plainsman M340 clay body, apply the glaze on bisqued-ware and fire in an electric kiln.
I try to mix the glaze well befor using, and I dip glaze trying to get a fairly thick, even coverage.
Can anyone suggest what I may be doing wrong, or what I might try to help aleviate this problem?
Ken
Hi Ken,
I researched this one and could not find a solution for you. I own this book and have made some of the glazes without problems but I do know this book has many errors in it. See http://www.potters.org/subject57860.htm
I also read some posts from clayart that had described the glaze the same way you did when they tested it.
Perhaps contact the author, I beleive he is the director at the Odessey Center in Asheville, NC. http://www.highwaterclays.com/odysse...hool.html[
Hope you find a solution or perhaps just move on.
Andy
I ran about 40 test on this glaze. I had an order for 400 mugs. I made the studip mistake of letting a customer look at some sample glazes that I had med and this was one. I never could duplicate it but came close. I talked with Mark , he is no longer in Asheville. He blamed the errors on the clay body from High Water. It was his glaze. I just found out last week at the Southern Highlands show about the errors in the book. Lark will send youj a new updated version, just call them . If you email me , cactus_jack98@hotmail.com , I will send you my fiinal glaze formula. It almost fried me with glazes. good luck Cactu Jack
