The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for of the position of Assistant Professor of Art with an emphasis in Ceramics and Three-Dimensional Studio Art. Within this setting, the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art offers these undergraduate degree programs: B.F.A. 2D or 3D Studio, B.F.A. Graphic Design, B.A. Studio Arts, and B.A. Art History, with course offerings in Art History, Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Jewelry/Metals, Painting, Printmaking, Paper and Book Arts, Photography, and Sculpture. The Department also offers a B.S. in Graphic Communications Management and the M.F.A. degree with focus in 2D Studio, 3D Studio, or Graphic Design. Twenty-four full-time faculty members teach 450+ undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students. The Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Three galleries and a sculpture garden are housed in a newly constructed, state-of-the-art gallery and Black Box Theatre facility, the Center for Art & Theatre. Permanent collections include the Southern Folk Art Research Center and the Georgia Artists Collection. The visual arts are experienced by all students on campus and are highly respected as an essential facet of the University’s liberal arts mission.
Position Description.
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Art with an emphasis in Ceramics/Three Dimensional Studio Art will teach foundations and undergraduate through graduate levels of Ceramics, as well as other teaching assignments which may be required based on program need. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active creative research agenda including juried exhibitions of regional, national, and international scope. The successful applicant also will oversee the operation of the ceramics studio including all equipment, supplies and safety measures. Other responsibilities include supervising, advising, and mentoring students and teaching assistants in the Ceramics program, and the management and direction of the bi-annual Club Mud public sale. Faculty in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art actively participate in policy, curriculum and program development, and community outreach programming for the Department. The position requires a terminal degree and is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

- M.F.A. in Studio with a specialization or concentration in field of Ceramics from an accredited institution by August 1, 2012
- Active exhibition record with demonstrated scholarship and potential for substantial notoriety in field
- 2 years or more full-time teaching experience
- Experience and knowledge with traditional techniques and contemporary digital techniques
- Ability to supervise studio operation, safety procedures and maintain studio equipment
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience teaching first-year students
- Experience with assessment and accreditation
- Preference will be shown to individuals with interest in cross-disciplinary teaching and integration of
technology and industrial practices within their curriculum.
