Faculty, Ceramics and Wood Sculpture
The faculty will provide instruction in beginning and intermediate levels of ceramics, emphasizing hand building and ceramic sculpture but also including wheel thrown vessels. This person will also provide instruction in beginning wood sculpture with an emphasis on direct carving. This includes safely operating, managing, and maintaining a teaching facility that includes electric kilns and comprehensive clay and glaze materials inventory as well as direct carving wood sculpture area. Position will start in the Fall 2011 semester, August 11, 2011.
Minimum qualifications include Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics; working artist with course work and experience in ceramic sculpture and wheel thrown vessels; successful teaching experience at the college level; course experience teaching direct carved wood sculpture; experience running a working ceramics shop; experience as a working artist in the ceramics field; capability of working in a wide range of aesthetic, conceptual, and technical aspects of ceramics and wood sculpture suitable for a broadly based teaching context; and knowledge of ceramic history and practice suitable for teaching in a College context.
