Hi
I'm trying to find a recipe for a clay that will fire a yellow ochre or mustard yellow color. It doesn't matter if its low fire, mid range, or high fire. It can be a little on the rough side. What matters is the fired color of the clay.
It DOES need to be food safe.
Thanks
Leigh

This message is not from me but it was sent to me via facebook. I know its not exactly what you are looking for, but it might be a possibility.
Judy sent you a message.
Re: Claystation Community
"I find the Mason stain Vanadium yellow will give you a mustard color on a red clay body -- or perhaps some redart slip (at least 3 coats) over a white clay body. Just mix the stain with your favorite clear at about 5/8%."

Your right, its not what I'm looking for. The clay itself has to be that shade of yellow all the way through the clay body, not just on top of it, like a slip. Maybe mixing the stain into a white earthernware might do it. Its worth a test tile or too.
A few years ago I experimented with adding mason stains to my clay body and had real good success. Its not something I did a lot of but it is possible. I did not try a yellow but I would think if you just added about 15-20% to your favorite white earthenware body, it would work well. I believe the vanadium isn't to expensive although I am sure it could add up for a clay body.
I know Vince Pitelka is very knowledgeable in this area. See this link
