    Smile today's laying ceramic tiles

Today’s laying ceramic tile tip should be of equal importance to fellow DIY’s. We always hear about people saying to always measure where the centre of the floor is and to always start laying our tiles from there..but the question is why the need for this? Why can’t we just start from any edge and work across the area?

The answer is…it is very unlikely that one will find a floor that is perfectly square. Because each sides of your work area is not entirely equal and if you started laying from one corner, the layed tiles will eventually look out of sync and unmatched in the middle. In old houses, you will also find that the angles of the floor are not likely to be exactly 90 degrees. It is better to have cut pieces at the edge rather than in the middle.

So in order to get the best results from our laying ceramic tile project, the end results will look better if you start in the centre and any cuts made will be around the outside edge. If one is to start in the middle, all the tiles around the edges should be roughly equal in size on both sides of the floor.

To do this, just draw a line using removable pencil down the centre of the floor end to end, making sure it is perfectly straight. Then when laying ceramic tile, just make sure to keep the tile line exactly the same as the floor line, end to end so that you’ll get a beautiful floor.

Laying ceramic tile in this manner is just a matter of aesthetics and symmetry. It looks better and it gives the floor a balanced appearance with the cut tiles around the perimeter. Be Happy and Good luck with it

thanks for the tips. I have never attempted to lay tile, but I do love the look of ceramic tile floors, especially if laid on an angle.
would a snap chalk line also work to mark the starting line?
